Nestled in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, this editorial shoot was part of an intimate photography retreat I hosted for female creatives looking to expand their destination wedding portfolios. The shoot was inspired by the rich textures and timeless beauty of Italy, think sun-drenched stone villas, effortless bridal elegance, and romantic alfresco moments. Every element, from the hand-painted plates to the overflowing florals was chosen to evoke a sense of storybook magic and quiet luxury.
Set just outside the medieval town of San Gimignano, our venue was a centuries-old stone villa Borgo Pian di Sala nestled among olive trees and cypress-lined paths. The textures of the worn stone, the sweeping Tuscan views, and the golden light provided a setting that felt both cinematic and deeply grounded in place. The ceremony took place against the backdrop of the villa’s stone, framed by a lush floral arch that looked as though it had sprung up naturally overnight. Every corner of the property offered an opportunity for breathtaking imagery, from sunlit strolls to intimate tablescapes.
We leaned into a fresh and expressive palette inspired by the Italian countryside in bloom. Soft butter yellow, lavender, sage green, and creamy ivory formed the base, with subtle pops of plum, blush, and coral for depth and contrast. The colorful bird-patterned china added playful vibrance, while florals mirrored the wild, organic nature of Tuscan flora. The result was a color story that felt alive, lighthearted yet elegant, intentional yet unforced.
The florals were designed to feel as though they were gathered straight from the Tuscan countryside: wild, organic, and bursting with color. A mix of seasonal blooms like hellebores, sweet peas, garden roses, and blooming branches created movement and texture, while unexpected touches like fritillaria and airy greenery gave everything a fresh, foraged feel. For the ceremony, a sculptural floral arch stood in perfect harmony with the stone villa backdrop, as if it had grown there naturally. At the reception table, florals overflowed from low, footed bowls in loose arrangements, surrounded by crystal glassware, olive-toned taper candles, and whimsical bird-patterned china. The design was rooted in nature but elevated with thoughtful, artistic details.
